I need another shower

TW: sexual assault / rape / violence

This is an adaptation of a segment from a longer piece which I hope to share soon… I just feel that the current climate in Australia calls for this part to be shared now.

Right now, Australian women are being told by the Australian leadership team every day that we don’t matter. The current leadership has amply demonstrated their unwillingness to hold men accountable for their violent acts towards women.

When we report rapes we are blamed and shamed. When we don’t, we are blamed for the future actions of the perpetrators.

When will men be held accountable for their acts of violence? Men must be as accountable for their violence against women, as women are currently made accountable for men’s violence against them.

Enough is enough.

Why are we angry? Because too many women shower everyday wishing that the day will come that they can shower just to be clean from the gym – not from the shadow of hurt, misery and pain that our rapists have left on our skin.
