After these years

My life, my dreams are askew

After these years and layers of hurt…

…I just want a moment not to feel.”

I didn’t write this poem about politics, or change – even though the current state of Australia does make me wish I could not feel. It was an expression of the way I felt at a certain time in my life in 2016. Yet today, I share it because: As a woman, in a time where the most powerful people in Australia are ignoring and shaming women for speaking out – we need to talk about imposed shame and hurting…

Women need to be able to speak of these things without risking public backlash. Today, is the time for the hurting of women and silencing of women to stop.

The more women are allowed to say what who we are and share our stories the safer we will all be.

We aren’t lying. We aren’t hiding. We are telling our stories.

All the while praying that things change for all my sisters around Australia and across the globe.
